A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the onset of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
