Antony Price, Famed for Creating Looks for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer behind many legendary styles associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.
Price was best known for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, most notably the pastel suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."
Price's death comes shortly after he debuted his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.
A Pioneering Career
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he started his work in menswear at Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping sculptural silhouettes established him as a "true original," according to the UK's fashion authority.
During the nineties, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including various looks for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.
After a career spanning half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.
