One of the co-founders of the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has stated how parent company Unilever stopped the introduction for an innovative Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that established the business alongside Jerry Greenfield, announced that he will personally create this new product within an individual series highlighting causes the company was prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Conflict Involving Creators versus Parent Company

The recent announcement deepens the ongoing conflict among the internationally recognized ice cream maker with its corporate parent, the British packaged goods corporation which acquired Ben & Jerry's since 2000.

The co-founders have claimed how the parent company along with its ice cream arm the Magnum brand improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Flavor becoming an Emblem of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen announced through social media that he's developing a new watermelon-based frozen dessert, asking for public suggestions for naming options plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” the founder declared in a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-based ice cream that calls for permanent peace in Palestine and calls for addressing the harm that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has emerged as an emblem of support for the Palestinian people because of its colors, which mirror those of the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Activism and Current Changes

In 2021, the ice cream company refused to sell its products in areas occupied by Israel, resulting in the parent company transferring the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thereby permitting continued sales within disputed territories.

This upcoming product line is being developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company which originally created in 2016 for endorsing ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Changes and Future Intentions

The founder stated how he plans to develop other ice cream flavors focusing on concerns that Ben & Jerry's was silenced from speaking about openly due to corporate restrictions.

The announcement follows partner Mr. Greenfield resigned from Ben & Jerry's in September, after decades with the organization, citing worries regarding how the company's autonomy had been compromised after Unilever's decision to curb its social activism.

At that time, Ben Cohen remarked how "Jerry has strong compassion and this conflict with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience compels me to keep working inside the company to fight for its independence so that the company can fulfill its ethical purpose, the principles that it was founded on while upholding for decades," he explained to journalists.
