Iran Claims Attack on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Regional Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity near the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is uncertain and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with notable success and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in the capital, causing some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
