Forecasters are saying a chilly commencement to the new year, with snowfall anticipated over large parts of the UK. Revelers are advised to bundle up as bitterly cold temperatures are predicted for New Year's Eve.
Hogmanay Plans Continue In Spite of Forecasts

Moving into Friday, advisories have been issued for Northern Ireland and from Wales, across parts of the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and most of the south-east of England.

The Mercury Expected to Fall Even More
As 2026 begins, it will be "chilly no matter where you are," commented forecaster Simon Partridge. Conditions are set to drop further as wintry showers and strong winds are expected to affect the north of the country.
Around 10cm of snow is forecast to have accumulated in some areas by Friday morning, with up to 30cm on the highest roads and hills.
Public Health Advisories Activated
Meanwhile, amber-level health advisories have been issued for the north-east and north-west of England. These are expected to stay active until noon on 5 January, with the mercury forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.
The health agency explained this meant the weather could to trigger significant impacts across medical and care provision. This encompasses a expected uptick in the fatality numbers among the elderly or unwell or those in the older age groups.
