Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his future after a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the team's worst streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I feel the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Issues and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase like this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
