It's tough for Australia to achieve unprecedented feats.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

This is the team that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and once went 1,294 days unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the achievement hunters, are what's still available for a squad that has achieved everything.

The fact it required until Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, in truth, a compliment to the bowlers that have sported the yellow jersey over five decades.

It is hard for their batters to hold a record if never given the chance.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia allowing 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy receiving a chance to produce her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

That loss "motivated us to reevaluate our levels," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the final and was declared player of the series. She made sure her country would not come up short.

If this recent magnificent innings exceeded that prior achievement is debatable.

Some will argue the case for championship match pressure. Some might respond with the test that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's clear is this hundred was considerably tougher to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she was the highest scorer, but this knock followed six innings in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it was a disappointing period because I feel like I've had no rhythm at all," commented Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your competitive nature take over and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's fighting spirit has continuously been her great strength - and an invaluable trait in taking over from iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in each encounter, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's inspiration.

A single came off the bowler's initial ball and after that the batsman was on her way.

"A chance to go out there and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself in that regard, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 pitches - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her hundred in 84 as she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three maximums.

By the time she was dismissed Australia needed 66 more at run per delivery - an unconquered height now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is new territory so I'm pleased we have the belief to accomplish that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to do it another time but, if necessary, we believe we can succeed."

That comment will be the last competing nations at this World Cup need to hear.

During the last week a feeling they will succeed regardless of circumstances has only strengthened - this triumph following victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one point.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may well be secure.

It was at that stage they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - an encounter Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at an important competition.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated through the pain.

Yet even as she subsequently acknowledged those fitness problems have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this World Cup is likely to be her concluding event as leader in one-day cricket and she is yet to win a global event as leader.

Success in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
