US Military Executes Lethal Strike in Eastern Pacific, Leading to Four Fatalities
According to a senior defense spokesperson, the US military executed a fatal strike on a boat in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four people.
“A US joint task force conducted a deadly attack on a craft operated by a terrorist group in international waters. Intelligence verified the vessel was transiting along a established drug smuggling route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. All four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no American forces were harmed.”
Context and Recent Strikes
The statement comes a day after an announcement regarding a naval blockade of all targeted oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, pledging to increase the military buildup.
Just on Tuesday, US defense officials stated it had conducted strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 military engagements have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Government Justifies Tactics Amid Scrutiny
The administration has faced increasing pressure to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. However, officials have refused to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a success, arguing it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the bounds of lawful warfare.
While the administration has stated the operation is about stopping drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide appeared to confirm a wider geopolitical objective. In a recent interview, the senior advisor remarked the president “aims to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”
This suggests the military campaign may be part of a strategy to oust Venezuela's current leadership.
